14 winter warmers

December 17, 2020 • In Drinks, Christmas, Winter

Looking for hot drinks and soups to keep you warm during the colder months? We’ve got plenty of quick and easy ideas.

Make way for cups of steaming hot chocolate, flasks of mulled wine and glasses of hot, spicy cocktails that are perfect for keeping your spirits up as the temperatures go down. These are our favourite hot drink recipes to keep you and your favourite people cosy all season long.

Make the moment even more memorable by serving them in Jamie’s Cosy Cuppas from his new Big Love range – perfect for dunking a cheeky biscuit in!

Hot & not-alcoholic

The star of winter, a cup of hot chocolate is never a bad idea. And this version of the drink (modelled in one of Jamie’s Cosy Cuppas) is taken to the next level with the addition of marmalade and a scoop of ice cream! A few minutes is all you need to make it, and you’ll be sipping on a little taste of heaven.

Watch: One-minute matcha

Traditional Japanese tea ceremonies have long featured the delicious powdered green tea that is matcha, although it originates from China. Part of the joy of the drink comes from the preparation, so spare a minute or two and then savour this delicious warming drink.

WATCH: Jamie’s herbal cuppa

Nothing beats the satisfaction – or taste – of whipping up a nourishing herbal tea from scratch. So why not have a go at making Jamie’s herbal cuppa with turmeric, orange, honey and thyme? Full of iron and vitamin C, this drink is perfect for chilly mornings. Serve it in one of Jamie’s Cosy Cuppas for extra style points.

Warming spiced chai (the Hindi term for ‘tea’) is perfect after a cold, frosty walk or for cosy afternoons at home. Beautifully spiced with cinnamon, cloves and ground ginger, with just the right level of sweetness, it’s a big hug in a mug.

If you’re looking for something the whole family will love, this homemade malted hot chocolate is off-the-scale good. Made with real chocolate, it’s so much better than shop-bought, and will have everyone coming back for more.

Put a savoury spin on your winter warmers with a mug of steaming soup. This vibrant green number is on the table in less than 30 minutes, thanks to some speedy air-fryer action! Serve in your favourite Cosy Cuppas from Jamie’s Big Love collection, with crunchy cheesy soldiers for an epic texture contrast.

What’s the best way to enjoy ice cream in cold weather? In an affogato, of course! This one features chocolate sauce and is finished with a walnut, to recreate that delicious sweet. Perfection!

Warming winter tipples

This classic winter warmer, which is perfect for get-togethers, needs no introduction. Fragrant spices, oranges and lemon gently infuse red wine, then it’s finished with a dash of crème de cassis. Make a batch and keep warm in a slow cooker for your guests to help themselves.

If mulled wine’s not your thing, this pear and ginger alternative is one to try. Deeply spiced with cinnamon & cardamom, and brightened with spiced rum and zesty lime, it packs a real punch.

Tea, brandy and honey are gently simmered to create this rich and warming cocktail from mixologist Giuseppe Gallo. So good served with spiced cakes or biscuits.

Another good winter drink to have in your recipe repertoire, this fiery little number is sure to put some warmth in your belly. If you want a super-spicy kick, make this the day before, and leave the ginger in the water overnight to infuse.

Scrumpy gets the winter treatment in this incredible hot spiced cider. With star anise, cinnamon and vanilla, it’s a real feast for the senses. You could also use apple juice instead, for a delicious non-alcoholic alternative.

Not just to ward off the common cold, this whisky warmer will hit the spot on a cold winter’s day. Feel free to leave out the whisky if you prefer something booze-free.
