Jamie's GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ attempt
It's official! We've made history by breaking the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the largest cookery lesson (multiple venues), ever!
"We did it! I'm absolutely delighted that we’ve broken the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the largest cookery lesson (multiple venues) ever. It just goes to show what an impact we can have when we come together to celebrate the joy of learning how to cook. We couldn’t have done it without everyone who joined the class – so thank you, each and every one of you, and cheers to us!"
— Jamie Oliver
With 10,500+ people from across the world dialling into Jamie’s live stream cookery class, record breakers cooked up fresh pasta and easy no-cook tomato sauce; in school classrooms, office meeting rooms and even neighbours’ patio gardens!
Jamie and his Head Cookery School Chef, guided the participants through the class, demonstrating simple and nutritious foundational cooking skills that Jamie believes to be transformational for the futures of the next generation.
ABOUT JAMIE’S 10 SKILLS PROGRAMME, MINISTRY OF FOOD
The record attempt was carried out to illustrate Jamie’s core belief that all children, everywhere, should be able to leave education at 16 with the ability to cook and provide for themselves - no matter what life throws at them. From nutritional knowledge, knife skills, food safety to budgeting.
Jamie’s 10 Skills resource hub provides secondary schools across the nation, essential food education, nutrition and budgeting materials, which have been developed with food educators across the UK. Since 2023, the programme has taught 127,250 young people across the UK. This September will see 900 schools deliver the course, reaching 225,000 new students, taking the total taught number to 352,250 children. The Jamie Oliver Group aims to teach 1 million people to cook through the programme by 2030.

The only cost for the day will be your ingredients.
Yes, the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ team will require proof that everyone has participated, that’s why every classroom or event space will need someone to act as a witness, to time the event and provide evidence, as well as a steward to confirm that everyone follows the cooking class as instructed or doesn’t leave the event, but don’t worry this can be a teacher, parent or friend - we’ll be sharing details closer to the time.
It shouldn’t affect the whole attempt, but it could impact your team as at least 15 people are required per class, and if someone doesn’t complete the cooking class out of your group of 15, that class would not count to the final record but you can still have fun!
Children can absolutely take part, but, yes, they will need adult supervision, especially as we are working with boiling water. Check out our health and safety guide here for more information.
This is a multisite record, which means there needs to be one flagship venue or ‘site’ that the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ team will visit – this will be at The Jamie Oliver Cookery School at John Lewis Oxford Street. We expect everyone else to join us virtually as we begin our class, so you will need access to an electronic device and Zoom.
As you are joining virtually, we suggest logging in at least 10 minutes beforehand to make sure you’re prepared and ready for the class. The class itself will be 1 hour 30 minutes long, with the aim of everyone sitting down for lunch after we have all completed the record attempt.
You will need to bring your own ingredients, we have provided a list HERE as well as the equipment needed to be able to participate.
We are hoping to find out on the day, so we will let everyone know as soon as possible, either on the day or shortly afterwards via email.
Yes! We will be sending you all your very own certificate and a thank-you note for participating.
Yes, you are welcome to take photos and videos and share them with us on Jamie’s Ministry of Food Instagram! Please ensure you have obtained consent from parents or guardians beforehand if the photos or videos show children under 18.
Yes, we will be sharing the event details and highlights on our own channels too - so watch this space!
You can contact us at mofrecord@jamieoliver.com if you have any questions beforehand or on the day.
